Old Friends
(HUMAN Kankri X Reader)
~flashback to childhood~
Your name is ____, you were walking out of class to join the other kids on the playground. Not that they’d want to play with you though. They had just finished laughing and pointing fingers at you for being no fun. You were more or less use to the painful teasing but it always left you fighting back tears.
You were about to cry when you heard sniffling from near by. You look over seeing some kids hurrying off leaving some kid behind. You moved out of their way looking at the kid, he was rubbing his eyes with the sleeves of his bright red sweater. You walked over to him looking at him confused.
“Hey what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” You asked making the kid look up. He had tears coming from his eyes.
“T-the other kids, they say I talk too much. They make fun of me…” He rubbed his eyes again, clearly teasing hurt him more than you.
“Well they call me no fun. You don’t see me crying do you?” You said blinking to fake being strong.
He looked at you still crying, you smiled at him. You opened your arms to him offering a hug, he didn’t hesitate in hugging you. He cried into your shoulder as you hugged him. You trying to shush his crying, he started to silence calming down. Once all his tears stopped he pulled back rubbing his eyes a final time.
“You okay now?” You asked him with a sympathetic smile on your face, he nodded.
“Yeah, I-I’m okay now. What’s your name?” He asked trying to smile.
“It’s ____ ____. What’s your name?” You asked smiling.
“Kankri Vantas. I’m glade to meet you.” He said finally showing a real smile.
“You know, you don’t have to listen to those bullies. We can be friends.” You said smiling brightly, it wasn’t like you two couldn’t be friends.
There was silence for a few moments. Sure it was awkward but you waited, you both needed a friend. You were teased and so was he, so why not stick together. You stared at him worried he’d say no.
“Sure, I’d like that.” He said holding out a hand to you. You brushed past it and hugged him.
“We’ll help each other, come on lets go play.” You said tugging at his sweater as your pigtails bounced around.
You and Kankri became great friends. You would stick up for him when he was teased and he’d make you smile while you cried. You two couldn’t be separated, he kept by your side even though from time to time you two had small fights. Kankri’s older brother Karkat would break it up then yell at you two.
Kankri and you would have fun trying to fight Karkat, tackling him and hitting him with pillows for fun. Karkat didn’t mind too much, he liked seeing you two happy. It was great for the few years it lasted. But it wasn’t going to last forever.
One day you were sitting on the playground crying, you were trembling rubbing your nose and eyes while tears pored out. Kankri found you surprised since you didn’t usually cry. He hurried over shaking your shoulders.
“____ what’s wrong?!” He sounded scared for you, you looked at him crying.
“I’m m-moving away Kankri, I-I won’t be around an-any more.” You said hiccupping trying to breathe.
“What do you mean ____?” He was still confused.
“My f-family is moving t-to a new house fa-far away. I won’t s-see you any more Kankri. I’ll be go-gone.” You said hugging him crying in his shoulder.
He was no less than surprised, you were his closest friend and you would be gone soon. He hugged you tight, he’ll be alone once your gone. Sure he had made a few new friends but they weren’t the same. Your hair was messing in it’s pigtails, and you were shaking as though stuck in a blizzard with no coat. You cried and sniffled most of the day, you didn’t want to be alone again.
You couldn’t stop it, you had to move. Kankri and his brother visited you on your last day around for a final good-bye. You cried giving them both hugs. You left without much choice waving bye to them as Kankri started to cry.
